‘SLAVES, SINNERS and SAINTS’

‘Slaves, Sinners and Saints’ was written by Cedric Barber in 2007/8.  The book contains a series of amazing accounts of God dealing with one family – his family!

A Slave boy!  The first account is of Quashey, a black slave boy in Jamaica in the 1740s.  Sold together with his brother, Luckey, and his mother, Grace, as a ‘job-lot’ for £5, Quashey went on to become Francis Barber, the patriarch of the Barber family, and one of today’s  ‘100 Great Black Britons.’  This happened because of Frank’s close relationship with that outstanding master of the English language, the great Doctor Samuel Johnson.

A Black Evangelist in a white city!  Frank’s son, Samuel (named after the doctor), because of his dramatic and beautifully documented Christian experience of being born again, and his association with Hugh Bourne and William Clowes in the powerful spiritual revival in Stoke on Trent in 1805, has a less famous, but even more powerful story to tell.  (see also ‘A Memoir of Samuel Barber’ on this website)

Topical Events!    Bi-Centenaries of British Slave Trade Abolition and the famous Primitive Methodist Camp Meeting at Mow Cop coincided in 2007.  These two most significant, historical events triggered massive interest in each of these Barbers, both nationally and locally.  Understandably, in the light of Cedric’s discovery of his family’s involvement in each of these, he was dramatically affected.  He is the direct great, great, great, great grandson of Francis Barber.   While they were black, he is white, but his new-found love and affinity for his own flesh and blood has very much changed his thinking and opened up many, many new relationships for him.  This can only be discerned by reading the book for yourself.

Not many noble!  These men were not famous in their own right, but became known because of their association with influential historical figures.  For this reason, there was ample documentary evidence to give detailed accounts of their lives and what made them laugh and cry!  Cedric has done this in Part I (Francis Barber) and Part II (Samuel Barber).  In Part III, he has traced each of the Barbers directly down the family line to the present day ‘Staffordshire Barbers’.   A prophecy at Hollybush Farm (of ‘Miracle Valley’ fame) in Yorkshire was marvellously fulfilled in  2007 – a year when four of the modern generation Barbers named Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

Security!  Part III is full of events, some good, some bad, but through them all, God has had his hand on the Barber family.  What of the future?  In these uncertain times there are many signs which indicate that the return of the Lord Jesus is near.  From scripture, the book links the revivals of the past and present with the prodigious end-time events which are prophesied.  It gives an invitation to uncommitted people to dedicate themselves to Jesus, the King of kings, and Lord of lords.  It offers an invitation to Alpha Christians to become Omega Christians to shepherd the many converts who will “call on the name of the Lord” before it is too late.

Unique!  This is a book which is the only one of its kind.
FACTS.  Historical, Personal, Natural, Supernatural and Scriptural! FACTS!

A book which will help Christians and non-Christians alike, while giving a story line far more thrilling than any fiction novel.
